In Downtown Milford This October, the Deadlines Come Before the Events

Ask for downtown Milford's October and you'll get a list of four events. What decides your month is a second list: the days by which each one fills up, drops its price or turns out to be on a different weekend than you heard. This year that second list is mostly here already. The first event is four days away, and its tickets show as gone.

Downtown has something on four Saturdays in a row, starting this weekend. The Downtown Milford Business Association runs two of them, Artisan Events by Ally runs a third, and the fourth is a 5K benefiting the Beth-El Center. Each one has its own cutoff, and in most cases the cutoff arrives before the event does.

Four Saturdays, Four Cutoffs

Here is how October lines up from today, Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Saturday Event Organizer Cost The deadline that matters
Oct. 10 17th Annual Wine Trail, 5 to 9 p.m. Downtown Milford Business Association $55 Ticket page shows sold out
Oct. 17 and 18 10th Annual Milford Artisan Market, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Artisan Events by Ally Free First 100 attendees each day get a giveaway
Oct. 24, with Friday Oct. 23 Hall-O-Weekend Downtown Milford Business Association Free events listed Trick-or-treat trail ends at 2 p.m., an hour before Fall Fest
Oct. 31 15th Annual Milford Trick or Trot 5K Race benefiting the Beth-El Center $37, then $40 Lower adult price ends after the first 150 registrants

The month started a week early. The Milford and West Haven Regional Restaurant Week ran Sept. 25 through Oct. 4. Ola, Bin 100, Flipside, Reggiano's, Stonebridge, The Breakwall, Taste of Thai, Tropical Caribbean and Monty's River Grill were on the announced Milford list. That's over now, which makes the Wine Trail the first event left on the calendar. It's also the one whose deadline has already passed.

Oct. 10: The Wine Trail Filled Up Before Its Week Began

The DMBA's 17th Annual Wine Trail runs Saturday, Oct. 10, from 5 to 9 p.m. Participating boutiques and businesses pour wine from Marginetti Distributors, and Milford restaurants and eateries supply the food tastings. Every ticket holder gets a wine glass and a map of the stops. Tickets are $55, and the money goes to the Junior Major League of Milford's youth sports programs.

As of this week, the DMBA's ticket page shows the event as sold out. The same page still lists participating businesses as "tbd," which means the roster of stops hasn't been published yet. Ticket holders will get it on the map at check-in. The page also calls tickets a non-refundable donation to the Junior Major League.

Two sources give different check-in times. Patch says registration opens at 4:45 p.m. in front of Milford Bank at 33 Broad St. The DMBA's own page and ticket listing both say 5 p.m. at the same spot. Since the organizer sets the time, plan on 5 p.m. Arriving at 4:45 means a short wait on Broad Street at worst.

Oct. 17 and 18: Free to Enter, With a Morning Cutoff

The 10th Annual Milford Artisan Market fills the Milford Green at 168–176 Broad St. on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17 and 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. Organizers count 170 local crafters and makers selling pottery, paintings, jewelry, woodworking, gourmet foods and other handmade goods.

With free entry, the only cutoff is the morning one. For the 10th year, the first 100 attendees each day get a free phone wallet and stand. The day also opens with a free hour of yoga at 10 a.m., both Saturday and Sunday. Arriving right at opening gets you both.

Live music runs in two areas, featuring Seth Adam, Elana Zabari, Sean O'Reilly and Adelaide Punkin. There are also kids' craft activities, food vendors and a dance exhibition. Organizer Alison Kosakowski, owner of Artisan Events by Ally, describes the market this way:

"Celebrating our tenth year in Milford, the Milford Artisan Market continues to offer shoppers the opportunity to browse so many unique, handmade products that can be given as holiday gifts."

The market comes back to the Green every May and October, and it was voted 2026 Best Community Event or Festival in the Milford Region. If you miss this weekend, the next one is in May. For holiday shopping, this is the last one before December.

Oct. 23 and 24: Two Windows in One Saturday

Hall-O-Weekend is the DMBA's second event of the month, covering the Green and downtown. It opens Friday, Oct. 23, with an outdoor showing of "Hocus Pocus" at the Green's gazebo at 6 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 24, has two windows that overlap but don't match. Fall Fest runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a costume parade, pumpkin patch, hay maze, vendors, children's activities and entertainment. The downtown trick-or-treat trail is shorter, running 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A family that shows up at 2:30 for the Green will still find Fall Fest going, but the trail will be closed. The 2026 parade time and the list of businesses on the trail haven't been published yet, so check the DMBA's event page closer to the weekend.

That same Patch roundup also puts the annual Trick or Trot on the Saturday schedule. The race's own information disagrees.

Oct. 31: The Race Is on Halloween

The race page for the 15th Annual Milford Trick or Trot 5K Run/Walk lists Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m., and the race starts at 9 a.m. The Beth-El Center's site, which the race benefits, matches that date. When an outside roundup and the race's own page disagree, go with the race's page. This race is the week after Hall-O-Weekend, on Halloween morning.

The details from the race page:

  • Start and finish: Lisman Landing, 37 Helwig Street. The route runs through the back roads near Milford Harbor and Fort Trumbull Beach.
  • Price: $37 for the first 150 registrants, $40 after that, and $25 for participants 18 and younger.
  • Sponsors: Harlow, Adams, and Friedman, P.C. and Sikorsky Credit Union.

The $3 difference is the last price break of the month, and it ends after 150 adult registrations, not on a set date. Since the count is the cutoff, the only way to be sure you get the lower price is to register early.

Parking is spread across four spots, which tells you something about the crowd on a race morning near the harbor. The race page lists Lisman Landing itself and Fowler Field behind the Milford Public Library at 57 New Haven Avenue. From Fowler Field, you cross the footbridge and turn left on Helwig. The other two are the public spaces at 1 New Haven Avenue and the Armory Square municipal lot, which you can enter from 36 South Broad next to Colony Pizza or from 15 Factory Lane next to Archie Moore's. Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, so the morning race and evening trick-or-treating are on the same day.

The Cutoffs, in Order

Put in order, October's deadlines look like this:

  1. Already passed: Wine Trail tickets, which show as sold out ahead of Oct. 10.
  2. Ongoing until it fills: The $37 Trick or Trot price, available until 150 adults sign up.
  3. 10 a.m., Oct. 17 and 18: The Artisan Market's first-100 giveaway and the free yoga hour.
  4. 2 p.m., Oct. 24: The end of the downtown trick-or-treat trail.
  5. 9 a.m., Oct. 31: The Trick or Trot start at Lisman Landing.

Three of these five fall before the event they belong to, or in its first hour. For more on how a downtown weekend fits together outside October, see our guide to how locals spend a weekend in downtown Milford.

What Has No Date at All

Downtown's calendar is set down to the hour. The Boston Post Road corridor is filling in on a looser schedule.

Spirit Christmas plans to open in November at 1405 Boston Post Road. That's the former JoAnn Fabrics site, where Spirit Halloween is operating now, so the same storefront switches holidays when the month ends. Riko's Pizza is headed to the former Plan B Burger Bar space at 1638 Boston Post Road, with no opening date reported. At the retail development at 1052 Boston Post Road, DORO Marketplace is a signed tenant alongside T-Mobile and Hammer & Nails. DORO also has no announced opening date, and Sprouts Farmers Market is expected there in 2027.

Of those three, only Spirit Christmas has even a month attached. Everything on the downtown list has a day and a start time. For a broader look at the town, our Milford neighborhood page covers its coastal and historic districts.

Downtown Milford's busiest month runs on schedules like these, and so does buying or selling a home near the Green: inspection windows, attorney review periods and offer deadlines that all come before closing day.
